‘Without The Moon’ by Mariam Seddiq

In the damp dew

You stared at the sky

As the birds flew

You heard their cry

But you waited for the moon

And you never knew

As you heard their cry

For the emptiness drew

And it wasn’t a lie

Its hands stretched for the moon

In Gaza, they did not queue

When you heard their last sigh

They were so few

Many did die

Ramadhan came without the moon.
